I was wondering if this is possible since the motors I use do not have a tach signal?

Hi David,
The Fan controller project provided with AN89346 http://www.cypress.com/file/137191/download
requires tach feedback and the project just provides PWM signal to control the motor. Not the actual BLDC motor drive signals.
Please check the input signal required to drive your Brushless DC motor.
If your motor requires direct BLDC signal you can refer: http://www.cypress.com/documentation/development-kitsboards/cy8ckit-037-psoc-4-motor-control-evaluat... examples.
There are couple of projects available which doesn't need any external feedback.
# Sensorless BEMF based BLDC
# Sensorless FOC based.
Thanks
