Hello, Im looking at a Hall effect sensor in the XSENSIV line PN : TLI4971-A120T5-U-E0001.

The part states it has measurment range of ± 120A.  As I read into the Data sheet Absolute Maximum ratings the Nominal current is 70A. But has a ± 250A Single peak for 10µs, 10 assertions per lifetime. My application requires measuring 48V battery current up to 83A. Not sure if this part will work?

Hello @Daniel,

The TLI4971xxx in its TISON-8-5 package uses an integrated current rail forcing the current on a special geometry through the package. This integrated current rail has a typical resistance of 220µOhm as stated in the datasheet. This value is outstanding in the market and allows a minimum self-heating.

For this performance the condition of 70A @TS<105°C was written in the datasheet. This was measured on Infineon-reference-pcb without any cooling.

In the case you attach some heat-sink or additional cooling to ensure Ts<105°C you can easily increase the current to 83A or above!

Hi @Daniel,

Ques: My application requires a measuring 48V battery current up to 83A.

Could you please let us know if 83A is the current during normal operation? or is it the peak current? in your application.

If your normal operating current ( Current during the most duration of device operation) is less than 70A and your peak current(Current during the short duration of device operation) is 83A then this part is suitable for your application.

70A is the nominal current( Current during normal operation  ) and it is not the peak current.

Please let us know if further clarification is needed.

Thanks,
