I am considering replacing the Renesas USB host controller with FX3.

The device has two signals: "VBOUT" (external power output enabled) and "OVCUR0" (overcurrent detection).

I want FX3 to have a similar function. Can it be implemented in FX3? Especially, I think that overcurrent detection requires a fast response using as interrupts.

I would like to use the FX3 as an interface to a Xilinx FPGA in "self powered" mode.  The FX3 also does power management for the system by enabling and disabling the switching regulators that power the Xilinx FPGA and a USB Host.  The FX3 also turns power to a USB host system on and off as well.  The FX3 is powered by a separate +3.3V (may be +3.6V ??)  and +1.2V regulators continuously.

Refer to the proposed self powered architecture diagram below....

FX3 VIO2, VIO3 and VIO5 remain powered continuously as the GPIOs associated with a particular VIO turn power on and off to the host and to the Xilinx FPGA as well as UART and JTAG interfaces for debugging.

FX3 VIO1 and VIO4 power the Synchronous Slave FIFO and SPI interfaces.  When the Xilinx FPGA I/O (I/O bank is powered by +3.3V) is powered down both VIO1 and VIO4 are powered down as well.  This is done to avoid driving the inputs of an FPGA that is not powered.  The Xilinx FPGA will be damaged if it's inputs are driven above 2.5V when the FPGA is powered down.

Since the FX3 is the main system controller it must boot from either I2C or SPI.  Given that the SPI interface is used for other FPGA interactions the only alternate is to boot from I2C.

Questions:

1.  The FX3 data sheet states that there are NO power sequencing requirements for the various power inputs.  Will the FX3 be damaged or not operate correctly, if the power to VIO1 and VIO4 is removed?  (Of course, the SPI and Synchronous Slave FIFO interface won't work but they are not needed when the system is in a low power state).

2. A "self powered" FX3 configuration is not clearly described in the data sheet or other FX3 collateral.  Looking at the schematic for CYUSB3KIT-001, it seems that VBUS is NOT connector but VBATT is connected to power the FX3.  VBATT may be between 3.2V to 6.0V.  A 3.3V supply may work but its output voltage tolerance will need to be checked carefully.  Is my understanding correct for using the FX3 in a "self powered" configuration?  Perhaps, powering the FX3 from 3.6V might be better as there will be more margin on the VBATT supply.

3. One of the KBA mentions enumeration problems in "self powered" mode with the boot loader.  The FX3 is always powered or at least is powered up first.  A non removable USB host is always connected to the FX3.  The FX3 controls power to the USB host.   I could connect VBUS through a 2:1 voltage divider to a GPIO to permit the FX3 to observe when the USB host has powered up the USB interface.  The firmware could then take appropriate action.  Please explain this "enumeration problem" and what might be done to work aorund it.

4. How long does the FX3 take to boot from I2C at 400 KHz or 1 MHz? 

5. When developing code and debugging, I want to boot from USB not I2C.  Is this possible?  Should the use "the boot from I2C but fall back to USB" boot mode be used?

6.  Can the I2C boot EEPROM be written from USB?  If so, how?

7.  Does the FX3 expect that I2C boot EEPROM be located at address 0x00? Can other I2C devices with different addresses also be connected to the I2C bus without interfering with the boot process?

I am testing CX3.

In high speed image, image was broken.

Right side of image is broken. 

(UVC , all registers and buffer size is same to default value. Source is made by "EZ USB Suit".

Please let me know how to fix this problem.

I'm trying to use a GPIO pin that was previously used as a PWM.
The problem is that when I re-configure it, it stay in 3-state mode instead of High level. 

What I'm doing wrong?

I want to use GX3.

Here is the driver. Is it mandatory to install this driver on a PC or Tablet connected to GX3? Is it possible to run with the device driver that the OS vendor has as standard?

There are a variety of devices that can be connected to the GX3. The procedure to install the dedicated driver on all PCs / Tablets is very complicated. I would like to delete this process if possible.

We are currently developing the firmware for a camera application based on CX3 IC. I realiced that CX3 is able to communicate with laptop, in order to manipulete the camera sensor, through two differet ways : by own driver or by standar UVC driver (V1.1 concretely).

We have decided to chose the standar UVC driver option to implement the communication betwen the laptop and the camera sensor. So, actually we can set and get whatever Camera Terminal controls (Exposure Time, Focus, etc) or whatever Processing Unit controls (Brightness,Contrast, etc). To do that, we follow the following approach:

- In laptop side, We have an application wich works with openCV library. Because it give us the possibility to interact with a camera based on UVC driver.

- In CX3 firmware side, we have the knoledge to modify the following files:
          - cycx3_uvcdscr.c = in this file we can enable or disable both Camera terminal controls and Processing Unit controls,              contemplated on UVC V1.1.
          - cycx3_uvc.c = in this file we must customize the CyCx3UvcAppUSBSetupCB function (Callback to handle the USB                    Setup Requests and UVC Class events). for set all necessary fields of each enabled property in cycx3_uvcdscr.c.                         Among the fields we can find the following:                                                                                                        CX3_USB_UVC_GET_LEN_REQ,CX3_USB_UVC_GET_INFO_REQ,CX3_USB_UVC_GET_MIN_REQ,CX3_USB_UVC_GET_MAX_REQ,CX3_USB_UVC_GET_RES_REQ,CX3_USB_UVC_GET_DEF_REQ,CX3_USB_UVC_GET_CUR_REQ and CX3_USB_UVC_SET_CUR_REQ. All this fields serve to set the amount of bytes, the maximum and minimum values and to write and read the value of the property.

Continuing with this, We would like to ask you the next question:

- It is possible to custom the data type of each property? I mean, for example, by default the exposure time is a double type. And We can not understand if it is set in cycx3_uvcdscr.c or it only depens of the UVC driver and it means that this field is not modifiable. Because we want to send directly the value in milliseconds, as a double, and convert it on a hexadecimal value inside the CX3 and send it to camera sensor. If we go to USB Video Class V1.1 document, we can see that the Exposure Time (Absolute) Control has 4 bytes of wLength, so how could we write the value directly in milliseconds?.

I need to achieve low standby power consumption in a system with an FX3 and a Xilinx FPGA.  This system primarily remains in a low power idle state for 99% of the time where neither the FX3 or FPGA is being used. 

Referring to the block diagram below, the PSoC is powered continuously through the LDO.  The PSoC controls switching regulators that power a USB host, the FX3 and the Xilinx.  The PSoC also performs aggressive power management to maximize battery life.

The PSoC turns on power to the FX3 and the Xilinx FPGA.  All of the FX3's core VDD(x) and IO VIO(x) supplies are powered.  The FPGA's IO banks connected to the FX3 are powered as well to avoid the FX3 driving an unpowered FPGA or vice versa.

Later, the PSoC will apply power to the USB Host system which in turn powers VBUS on the USB connector.  VBUS is used to hold the FX3 in RESET (using an RC network) until VBUS is stable.

Questions:

1. Will this method of powering the FX3 work? 

2.  I'm confused about the use of VBATT versus VBUS FX3 signals.    The Super Speed Explorer connects VBUS on the USB connector to the FX3's VBUS signal.  The FX3's VBAT signal is not connected on the SSE.   The FX3 DVK connects a select-able power supply(+5V,+3.3,+2.5) voltage or a battery through a diode OR to the FX3's VBAT signal.  VBUS from the USB connector is connected to the FX3's VBUS signal.    Other FX3 based boards connect the VBUS line from the USB connector to both VBAT and VBUS on the FX3.  I'm not sure what is the correct usage for my application.  Please explain.

3. I have other H/S USB devices that would share one USB Gen 3 connector.  It is possible to insert a CY7C65642 USB hub on the D+ and D- signals?
