We are trying to get the CY4163 working with an Avnet UltraZed-EV SK (Starter Kit), which consists of an UltraZed-EV SOM (System On Module) and UltraZed-EV Carrier Card. The UltraZed-EV SOM has a Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC (Multi Processor System on Chip), aka ZynqMP. The ZynqMP is running PetaLinux 2020.2. The UltraZed-EV SK works fine with the CY4609 and CY4603. However, the CY4613 is not detected when connected to the UltraZed-EV SK. Nothing appears under lsusb or dmesg. To rule out an issue with the CY4613, it has been tested with a desktop Ubuntu system where it works fine.

What could be causing this behavior and how might we fix it? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Sananya_14,

We used the default jumper settings, so ACA Dock was disabled.

As for the cable, we used the same adapter/cable that was used for the other CY4603 and CY4609, which consists of the Avnet recommended USB 3 micro-B to USB Type A adapter and USB Type A to USB 3 micro-B cable.

We have decided to switch to the already working CY4603, since we no longer have a need to use the CY4613.  Thank you for the suggestions, however we are no longer intending to debug the CY4613 at this time.

Best Regards,

Joe

Hello,

Since you mentioned that the CY4613 is getting detected on a Ubuntu system, it doesnt seem to be an issue with CY4613 configuration. Could you please set the jumpers to default positions as per the HX3 Kits User Guide and check? Could you try with the default ROM boot as well as EEPROM boot to see if it makes any difference? Please also connect any other hub to the UltraZed-EV SK and let us know if those are detected correctly.

Best Regards,
Sananya

Hi @Sananya_14,

Thanks for the response and suggestions.  We did set the jumpers according to the HX3 Kits User Guide when we tested it earlier.  We also tried connecting CY4609 and CY4603 hubs to the UltraZed-EV SK and both of them worked fine (see original post).

We will try the default ROM and EEPROM boot and let you know the results.

Best Regards,

Joe

Hi @Sananya_14,

We tried using the default ROM boot and it behaves the same; it is not detected by the UltraZed-EV SK, but works with an Ubuntu desktop machine.  The EEPROM boot mode was what was tested originally.

Any other suggestions?

Best Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Could you please ensure ACA Dock is disabled in the configuration? Please also let me know if you tried with any other cable and if it could be a hardware detection issue? Since the other HX3 EVKs are recognized correctly, I think it's not a hub driver issue on the UltraZed-EV SK.

Best Regards,
Sananya
