Can legacy chargers support multiple standards simultaneously?
In datasheet, the CCG3PA has 2 blocks of legacy chargers.
I want to support 3 standards in same FW.
- BC1.2
- AC 2.4A
- AFC
Thanks,
Tetsuo

Hi,
CCG3PA can support multiple legacy charging protocols simultaneously. Power SDK firmware requires some modification in order to support BC 1.2 and Apple charging simultaneously. You can refer to Legacy / proprietary charging configurations (Section 4.8 of CCGx Power SDK User Guide) for instructions.

Pranava-san,
Thank you for your quick response.
I understood that BC1.2 and Apple Charging can be supported simultaneously.
How about AFC?
I want to support BC1.2, Apple Charging, and AFC simultaneously.
Does AFC need external resistance?
My understanding that external resistance is needed only for Apple Charging.
Is it correct?
Thanks,
Tetsuo

Hi Tetsuo-san,
Yes, with the additional modification suggested all 3 protocols you mentioned can be supported simultaneously.
CCG3PA can support BC 1.2, Apple Charging, QC and AFC as a Source.
In Sink mode only Apple charging and BC 1.2 sinks are supported.
My understanding that external resistance is needed only for Apple Charging.
Is it correct?

Pranava-san,
Thank you for your support again.
CCG3PA is used as Power Adapter (source).
Therefore, I understand that the 3 protocols can be used simultaneously.
Thanks,
Tetsuo

Sorry, I have another question.
Is there any way to confirm Legacy Charging?
Legacy Charging does not use CC pins, so CY4500 cannot check status.
Thanks,
Tetsuo

Hi,
Legacy charging can be confirmed by analyzing Dp Dm and Vbus waveforms. From the firmware side you can always check for protocol that is active on the corresponding port.
We are not aware of any of-the-shelf analyzers as such.
