First like given First question asked Welcome!

Is it possible to run this device off a (nominal ) 5V DC supply and turn off the Type-PD functionality of this device leaving only the Type-C functionality (at 3A) and the legacy functionality (e.g. USB BC 1.2 etc).

Or possibly restricting the PD advertising to 15W  (5V 3A) whilst providing the Type-C and Legacy charging capability as stated above?

Many Thanks

Neil

> yes, it could be simply achieved with configuring the source PDOs to only 5V/3A. The configuration tool is https://www.infineon.com/cms/en/design-support/tools/configuration/usb-ez-pd-configuration-utility/#... The PD capability is still reserved.

> This also could be achieved to disable PD and reserve type-c capability only. Take either power bank or power adapter example project inside CCGx Power SDK(ez-pd-ccgx-power-software-development-kit/) as example, you need to call API - dpm_pe_stop() before while loop inside main function.

Thanks, Fred

Hi Neil,

I think it's doable, the CCG3PA has the ability to support PD3.1 PPS and 2*legacy/proprietary charging blocks (Supports QC 4.0, Apple charging 2.4A, AFC, BC 1.2), integrates all required terminations on DP/DM lines, supports one USB Type-C port and one Type-A port.

For your application, you need a dedicated firmware support.

I'm not sure whether you can achieve your goal by configuring the existing firmware, I will confirm it.

By the way, could you kindly provide us which CCG3PA IC you selected?

Regards,

Neo
