Customer use CCG7D and IPZ40N04S5L-4R8 to design Rear-Seat Charger.

now they have two questions about temperature, because currently the MOS Surface temperature is 100 °C

They want to know Tc to set OTP condition :

1. how to  calculate Tc value? ( CCG7D  and IPZ40N04S5L-4R8)

2. What is maximum Tc value  ( CCG7D  and IPZ40N04S5L-4R8)

Hello Lee,

I consider that you mean the Case Temperature of the chip and the MOSFET.
You can get it through the picture.

1.
1.1 The operating temperature of the CCG7D is between -40 and 105 ℃

a. extended 125℃ may shorten the useful life of the device
b. Usage above the absolute maximum conditions may cause permanent damage to the device

1.2 The operating temperature of the MOSFET is between -55 and 175 ℃

2. Tj=Tx+(Rjx*PD)

Tj: Junction Temperature
Tx: x Temperature(Ambient, Case, Board)
R: Resistance between Junction and x
(More Details are in the picture)

PD: Power Dissipation

Hi, Kieran,

Does "Case temperature " means temperature on chip surface ?  and it don't over operating temperature , right?

Hello Lee,

The temperature of the upper surface of the chip is called the case temperature.

Thanks,

Kieran

Hello Lvan,

It depends on the power dissipation of the chip and thermal resistance of the case.

For example, the CCG7D thermal resistance of the case is 12.9℃/W.  (You can find it in the datasheet)

CCG7D:

Kieran_Pan_0-1655868382902.png

Tc= Tj-12.9*PD

-40℃ <Tj< 125℃

MOSFET:

Kieran_Pan_1-1655868530622.png

Tc= Tj-3.1*PD (Caution:3.1K/W)

-55℃ <Tj< 175℃

The higher Power Dissipation, the lower Tc.

Best regards,
Kieran

1. Can you give me CCG7D Automotive datasheet?

2. What is CCG7D Automotive - "Power Dissipation" value ?

3. Does FW can get chip temperature ( Tj ) ?

4.  what is CCG7D Automotive's TJC value ? 12.9 or 3.1 °C/W...

Hello Lvan,

1. The datasheet of  the CCG7D is restricted now and you can get it from your local FAE(for NDA problem).

2. CCG7D standby is 150uA. Buck operation is 30mA, Buck-Boost is 40mA range.

3. Yes, there is an internal BJT.

4. The CCG7D Thermal Resistance Tjc (or Rthjc) is 12.9℃/W

The IPZ40N04S5L-4R8 Thermal Resistance Tjc(or Rthjc) is 3.1K/W

Hi, Kieran,

I check datasheets,

CCG7D consumer part's  Tjc is 12.9℃/W

CCG7D Automotive part's Tjc is 3.1 °C/W.

Can you please help me to confirm it?

and how to get chip temperature ( Tj ) by FW?

Hello Lvan,

1.
The CCG7D (chip) Thermal Resistance Tjc (or Rthc) is 12.9℃/W , right.

The IPZ40N04S5L-4R8 Thermal Resistance Tjc(or Rthc) is 3.1K/W not 3.1℃/W (the utility is K/W not ℃/W)

You can get more information through the link and picture which show the basic topology:  https://www.infineon.com/cms/en/applications/automotive/infotainment/usb-charging/rear-seat-charger/

2.
You can download EZ-PD configuration Utility, and create new CCG7D FW. You can set OTP value and Thermal throttling value.

However, the UI of the Tjc doesn't shown on the FW. You can ask the Engineer enable the function through software development kit.

Best regards,
Kieran

Hello Lvan,

Do you have any other problems? If not, I'll close the case.
