Hello,

I have a question about "Theoretical Max Range" displayed on "Radar Fusion GUI".

I have measured Range under the following condition in Radar Fusion GUI.

Samples per Chirp: 256, Chirps per Frame: 1, Chirp Reptition Time: 506us, Frame rate: 10Hz

Start freq: 58GHz, End freq: 63.5GHz, Sampling BW: 5.5GHz

Tx Power Level: 31, Received IF Gain: 40dB, Cutoff freq of the HPF: 80kHz

 Sampling Rate: 1000kHz

"Theoretical Max Range: 3.5m" is displayed below "Samples per Chirp" when I enter the above the condition in Radar Fusion GUI.

I understand Theoretical Max Range is calculated by the follwing formula;

Theoretical Max Range = (Sampling Rate * Speed of light) / (2 * (Sampling BW/Chirp Reptition Time))

Theoretical Max Range is 13.79m using the above formula, not 3.5m.

Please let me know why theose are different.

Please advise.

Regards, Shoko

Hello @shoko_s ,

Chirp repetition time (in seconds): This is the time period that elapses between the beginnings of two consecutive chirps in a frame. The chirp repetition time is also commonly referred to as pulse repetition time or chirp-to-chirp-time).

Please refer to the SDK documentation (located at: \radar_sdk\doc) for all the explanation regarding the parameters used in Radar Fusion GUI

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
Honey

Hello @shoko_s ,

In addition to the above reply, you may also refer to the range calculations as described below:

Hello Montassar & Honey,

Thank you so much for your response!

I understand the cailcurate method of max range for Radar Fusion GUI.

I have an additional question about Radar Fusion GUI parametor.

What part of the following image does "Chirp repetition Time" refer to?

I think that it is the period between tx start and tx end per 1Chirp.

Please advise.

Best regards,

Shoko

Hello Honey,

Thank you for quick response!

I understand the definition of Chirp repetition time.

Thank you, Shoko
