hello 

I have used to ic, i38060 for designing power module.

already I have designed, sometime i38060 ic had gone. about one of 300. 

Therefore I check to board, IC gone, etc.

Finally I recognized IC inner resistor Differ than initial supplied IC (Boot, PVIN, control Diode short, sync Diode short, etc)

I confirm that datasheet, Boot-SW Voltage 4.5~5.5 absolute maximum voltage.

but, we measured that voltage on our design Board. average 6V, over 6V overshooting. blow scoped wave capture.

why burnt or gone? (we designed input 18Vdc, output 12Vdc, bootcap 0.1uf, Boot resistor 0ohm, switch frequecy 600khz)

Thank you for contributing to the Infineon Community.

The maximum recommended operating range is 16V given switch node does not exceed 25V.

If you operate at 18V input the part might fail due to the switch node spike during the operation of the part.

It is usually recommended to use 1 ohm at RBOOT for PVin>12V.

The maximum recommended operating range is 16V given switch node does not exceed 25V.

If you operate at 18V input the part might fail due to the switch node spike during the operation of the part.

It is usually recommended to use 1 ohm at RBOOT for PVin>12V.

thank for reply.

when I had designed other project, input 21Vdc, output 12Vdc, nothing that event.

although your datasheet recommended operating range is 16V given switch node does not exceed 25V, I normally used.

New design is same to old design but input and output voltage.

I wonder if using 1 ohm at RBOOT for PVin>12V, not stable operation solved.

I tried to add noise(bootstrap Capacitance value change ; 100nF → 10nF) at SW node. but not happened. 

and than changed 1ohm at RBOOT but SW-BOOT wave same, also SW-GND, BOOT-GND as same. 

This case should not occurred, please tell me other solution.

Can you identify any failure pattern in the failed parts?

Does the failure happen during a sudden change in load?

Any input that you can give us on the failure pattern will help us identify the problem.

Any failure pattern in the failed parts don't decided to special case.

and than, the failure during a sudden change in load don't happened. just Power turn on or blind, because anyone  haven't seen.

I attach below input wave 3 of picture.

but I tried Input level swing test, not happened. test condition is input voltage 18V added ripple or noise, input voltage source (SMPS) swing ; not stable condition.
