In TLF35584, there are two watchdogs, standalone window watchdog and Functional Watchdog. We have a requirement of time-based and window watchdog as a functional safety requirement. We have a query - Are both the watchdogs, time-based & window watchdogs are same or different? Is question-answer watchdog & time-based watchdog are same OR different?

Hello ,

As discussed earlier. TLF35584/85 offers two types of watchdog-

1. Window Watchdog which is time based depending on timing of Open Window and Closed Window and corresponding servicing of WWD. For more details please check section 15.2 of the datasheet here

2. Functional Watchdog which is a Question/Answer Watchdog.

There is no separate window watchdog and time based watchdog. We only have two types of watchdog as defined above. However, the working of window watchdog is time based only.  You can also refer to this App Note for more details

Hello,

TLF35584 offers two types of watchdog-

1. Window Watchdog

2. Functional Watchdog (also called Question/Answer Watchdog)

Can you please elaborate what is the purpose of timing watchdog for your requirement. If it means the time duration of open window and closed window and servicing of watchdog based on that. Then, yes, window watchdog can be considered as same. Please refer to section 15.2 in the datasheet  for more details.

We have a requirement as highlighted below -

MicrosoftTeams-image (2).png

Here, the requirement is clear as separate time based & window watchdogs.

Timing is not the issue here, but the type of watchdog requirement is specific.

Can this be achieved by TLF35584?

Is time-based watchdog = functional watchdog = Question Answer watchdog?

Hello,

No, based on your requirement here. Window Watchdog will be the time based watchdog.

Thanks Albab.

Ok, So, can we implement both time base WD & window WD simultaneously for TLF35584.

If there is only window WD feature in an electronic part, can it be used as time based simultaneously?

Also can you suggest a chip having both window WD & time based WD features that can be used simultaneously.
