I have not read the book. However, from the excerpts, it seems that it mostly repeats examples already provided by the Cypress.  If your only goal is to use it for a class, then it is better to use project examples, provided with Creator IDE. Just open File->Code Examples and select PSoC5LP family:

Creator 4.4 examples.png

Each project is annotated and has App Note alongside.

It is also educational to watch training videos by Cypress. The PSoC5LP training videos are no longer available on Infineon, but you can find many on YouTube (search psoc+5lp+tutorial). Since PSoC5LP is dated, you should dig for older videos

How to blink an LED using Firmware with PSoC 5LP

How to Blink an LED Using a PWM Component with PSoC 5LP

How to Get Started with an ADC, DMA and VDAC Example Projects for PSoC 5LP

How to Get Started with an Opamp Example Projects for PSoC 5LP

How to use the WaveDAC with PSoC 5LP

How to Create an Analog Filter with PSoC 5LP

How to Create an Analog Alarm with PSoC 5LP

PSoC Creator Tutorial - Working with Clocks

PSoC Creator Tutorial - Importing and Copying Components

Non-Cypress video

PSoC Microcontroller Tutorial - Analog/PWM

PSoC Microcontroller Tutorial - Interrupts/Sleep

One can dig out PSoC5 App Notes on new Infineon website

https://www.infineon.com/cms/en/search.html#!term=PSoC5%20App%20note&view=all

But many can be also found here
