In this time of semiconductor shortage I am having difficulty finding a source of supply for the CY8C5888LT1-P097.

A sourcing company has come up with an alternative - the CY8C5868LT1-P097 which they say is identical except for the clock speed.

Looking for that device in the PS0C Creator library I can only find the CY8C5868LT1-P038 and -P039. Neither can I find it on the cypress/infineon website.

1. Does this device actually exist? Is it a cheap far-eastern copy? or is it just a CY8C58888LT1-P097 which did not quite meet the speed test?

2. If I get these devices, which device should I select for the build process? CY8C5888LT1-P097? CY8C5868LT1-P039? or CY8C5868LT1-P038?

3 what is the difference between the -P038, -P039 and P097?

Thank you

Peter

OK. So, to summarize -

Initially I appeared to have the choice of:

CY8C5888LTI -LP097 - my preferred choice as this was what the project was designed around, but aparently unavailable

CY8C5888LTQ-LP097 - extended temperature range. Perfect alternative but apparently not available

CY8C5868LTI-LP097 - lower speed (according to part number) but evidently not a valid cypress part number. Possibly rogue device. Avoid like the plague!

CY8C5868LTI-P039 - lower speed but apparently otherwise same spec as CY8C5888LTI-LP097 dispite different suffix but this one again not available

CY8C5868LTI-LP038 - lower speed and no CAN2 interface. I don't use the CAN2 interface and this device is apparently available so this is my only choice!!

Hi @PeSi_1583586,

By CY8C5888LT1-P097, do you mean CY8C5888LTI-LP097 (https://www.cypress.com/part/cy8c5888lti-lp097)?

If so, then find the MPN landing pages here:

CY8C5868LTI-LP038 - https://www.cypress.com/part/cy8c5868lti-lp038
CY8C5868LTI-LP039 - https://www.cypress.com/part/cy8c5868lti-lp039

Nikhil

Sorry! Yes I did mean CY8C5888LTI-LP097. and thank you for the links to the data sheets.

My main questions still remain - Is the suggested alternative - CY8C5868LTI-LP097 a legitimate part? Is it a real Cypress/Infineon device? Is it a cheap copy from a direputable supplier? Is it an actual Cy8C5888LTI-LP097 which didn't quite meet the speed test but perfect in every other way? As this part is not listed in the 'Select Device' function of PSoC Creator which device should I select in order to build the project and program the device?

note that if I enter the url: https://www.cypress.com/part/cy8c5868lti-lp097   I get 'Page not found'!

Peter

Hi @PeSi_1583586,

I find that the suggested replacement part number is not available in the datasheet (https://www.cypress.com/file/45906/download). For the replacement of CY8C5888LTI-LP097, you might want to look into the ordering information section of the datasheet.

  • CY8C5888LTQ-LP097 is similar to CY8C5888LTI-LP097 except for the temperature range capability. (I stands for industrial and Q stands for extended industrial).
  • CY8C5868LTI-LP039 is similar to CY8C5888LTI-LP097 except for the clock speed (LP039 has 67MHz and LP097 has 80MHz).

Best regards,
Nikhil

And CY8C5868LTI-LP038 is similar to LP039 but does not have an USB port.

Hint about availability : Kit CY8CKIT-059 is not available as far as I know but CY8CKIT-043 and CY8CKIT-146 is still available for <$10 (in europe mouser, farnell, digikey, rs-components). Those as PSOC-4 demoboards but also contain a CY8C5868LTI-LP039 as a programmer and they can be reprogrammed using USB bootloader. For me, this was a solution to still work with CY8C5868LTI-LP039. Hopefully the delivery problems will be solved soon...

Thank you. That means that the LP039 will be totally unsuitable for my project!! Although the table on page 127 of the data sheet shows that it does have a USB port but does not have a CAN2 port!

Does the CY8C5868LTI-LP038 have a USB port? What ports are absent from the LP038 parts which are present on the LP097?

Where can I get specific information about the difference between LP038, LP039 and LP097?

No, the other way around. LP038 has no USB Port. LP039 does have an USB port. Use the Device Selector in PSOC Creator to see the basic differences between the components.

That's very strange!! If I go to Device Selector in the Project menu with my project loaded it shows that ALL CY8C58 devices include a USB interface and that the only differece shown between the devices is the absence of a CAN2 interface in the CY8C5868LTI-LP038 device. See attached screenshot.

Hi @PeSi_1583586,

As mentioned in my previous responses, head to the ordering information section of the CY8C58LP Family DatasheetOrderign information is available on page 127 of 139.

I have highlighted the requested parts [LP038, LP039, LP097] in the image attached below. Also I have marked the part number I suggested in blue color [LTQ-LP097].

ncbs_1-1630941700664.png

  • LP097 and LP039 are similar except for the clock speeds [80MHz and 67MHz respectively]
  • LP097 and LP038 differ in clock speeds [80MHz and 67MHz respectively] and CAN 2.0B [present in LP097 and absent in LP038]
  • LTI-LP097 and LTQ-LP097 are the same with respect to the peripherals/functional blocks present. They differ in the operating temperature range.

Hope this helps

Nikhil

@PeSi_1583586 :

CY8C5868LTI-LP038 - Are you sure this is available ? Make sure you allready got the stock you need.

Let's put it this way - The procurement department of the company who are building this circuit for us (a company we have used many times in the past) assure me these parts are available from an 'excellent source' and will be a 'traceable product'  - so I'm happy!

And what does this "assure" mean ? Do they pay all development costs incl development time to switch afterwards to another chip when the chip can not be delivered ?

Sorry I dont want to be too negative, but Cypress says on its website its not on stock - not in their stock and not at all of their the main distributors... Farnell/Mouser/Digikey all say 0 in stock, prices have gone up 50~100% last 2 month and delivery time 66 weeks...
