We are using the Cypress module CYBLE-224100-00 to communicate between two  CYBLE-224100-00  modules as reader and tag respectively.

The tag configurations are

The reader configurations are

rest of the L2CAP settings, Advanced, Built-in settings are default in both reader and tag

When the modules are very close by. the RSSI value is -53dBm and as tag is moved it varies upto -79dBm and after that it saturates. The range between the two modules , the reader and tag respectively is low, approximately 1m.

What is the range between two CYBLE-224100-00  modules ?

What are the parameters and configurations to be considered?

Hello,

With the PA enabled(extended range communication), we can obtain a range of 400m with the CYBLE-224110 module in open environment. Please refer to the section Enabling extended range communication in the attached datasheet for more information.

PSoC4 BLE silicon device “Adv/Scan TX Power Level (dBm)” and “Connection TX Power Level (dBm)” in the BLE component are both set to -6 dBm.

Note: The CYBLE-224110-00 module is certified for FCC, ISED, CE, MIC, and KC regulations at an output power of +9.5 dBm. To achieve this output power, RFO2 (PSoC4 BLE silicon PA level) must be set to the -6 dBm setting in firmware. Settings higher than this will result in higher output power than specified in the CYBLE-224110-00 certifications.

Please refer to this KBA link also Obtaining the 400-m Range from EZ-BLE PSoC® XT/XR Modules (CYBLE-224110-00 / CYBLE-224116-01) - KBA2...

Thanks,

Hi Yugandhar,

I am trying to read the RSSI values of the tag from the advertisement report at the reader side.

When initally tested with phone app Cysmart , I was able to get the range upto 100m, with varying vaules of RSSI as i move the tag further.

When i made another CYBLE-224110-00 module as reader with default scan paramter settings and the tag with ADv/scan and connection TX power level settings as 3dBM .

On scanning i am able to read and display RSSI value .

But unlike the behaviour with phone as reader, with the module as reader, when the two modules are very close by the RSSI is -53dBm and as it is moved a little distance it chnages to -79dBm and remains that way and the range is also small ,it is around 10m .Why??

At the tag(peripheral) end the PA is enabled and the Adv/scan and connection tx power level are set as 3dBm.

At the peripheral PA is enabled as below

Is there any setting for LNA??

I suspect the reception in the module is not right since when in comparsion with phone app the module is behaving differently.

setting “Adv/Scan TX Power Level (dBm)” and “Connection TX Power Level (dBm)” in the BLE component  to -6 dBm will reduce the range .

Why did u suggest -6dBm??

Thanks,

Uma

Hello,

This is a limitation of PSoC BLE 4.1 devices, the RSSI value returned saturates at -79dBm. Anything beyond will be reported as -79dBm only.

Q: Is there any setting for LNA??

Ans: The register CYREG_SRSS_TST_DDFT_CTRL is used to switch the PA/LNA hardware control pins. Please refer to the section Enabling extended range communication in the attached datasheet for more information.

Q: Why did u suggest -6dBm??

Ans: CYBLE-224110-00 module is certified for FCC, ISED, CE, MIC, and KC regulations at an output power of +9.5 dBm. To achieve this output power, RFO2 must be set to the -6 dBm setting in firmware. Settings higher than this will result in higher output power than specified in the CYBLE-224110-00 certifications. So we have to set the power levels according to the certifications.

Thanks,

P Yugandhar.
