Dear Sirs and Madams,

Please confirm for the connection when using External Cristal Oscillator (ECO) with PSoC4S.

I understand that Rf and Rd like the configuration below are unnecessary.

Are these resistances unnecessary as they are built inside the PSoC4S?

We are considering the use of 16MHz in the DSX320G series.

Are Rd and Rf unnecessary even in this case?

The PSoC4100S_Max is very different from the basic 4100S. 4100S does not have an ECO, 4100S_Max does have an ECO. Trimming the (high frequency) ECO to fit your crystal can be done by following the directions in section 9.2.4.1 of the Architecture TRM 002-32818 which you can download from the website. There is no tool to calculate and automatically assign the correct register values. The registers you have already found as shown in your earlier response.

Hi @MaMi_1205306,

Are you trying to use ECO on PSoC 4000S device?

ECO is supported only in  PSoC™ 4100BLE, PSoC™ 4200BLE, PSoC™ 4100L, PSoC™ 4200L and PSoC™ 4100S Max devices. In order to provide high-accuracy clock to the PSoC 4000S device, you may supply a high-precision clock signal through EXT_CLK pin (P0[6] in PSoC 4000S), which in-turn drives the HFCLK.

Please refer to the following sources:

  1. Section 4 Clocking in PSoC™ 4 MCU hardware design considerations.
  2. Chapter 7. Clocking System in PSoC 4000S Family: PSoC 4 Architecture Technical Reference Manual (TRM) for detailed description of all the clock sources available in PSoC 4000S.

Best regards,
Nikhil

Nikhil-san,

Thank you for your response.

We read PSoC4100S family datasheet and Architecture TRM carefully.

However, we couldn't find any mention of ECO's hardware connection.

I also confirmed for the URL you provided, but it's the same.

When I confirmed for the PSoC4S MAX and PSoC4 BLE demo kit schematic, it was presumed that Rg and Rd were unnecessary, but I would like to confirm that they were built into PSoC4S.

We understand that ECO can be adjusted from Register TRM with EXCO_ECO_TRIM0/1/2.

Please let us know that the adjustment range of ”Feedback register Trim” described in the EXCO_ECO_TRIM1 register may be just how many ohms to how many ohms are expected.

Hi MaMi-san [@MaMi_1205306],

Could you please confirm the device being used? In your initial post, I see PSoC4S but later you have referred to PSoC4100S. Both these devices do not have ECO as its clock source.

Nikhil-san,

We are considering the PSoC4S MAX series.

Part number is CY8C4149AZI-S598(Default device in Modus Toolbox).

Dennis-san,

Thank you for your answer.

We think we probably don't need external resistor Rf and Rd, I understood that you can't answer about the Rf and Rd resistance values that can be adjusted inside the PSoC4S MAX.
