Hi

We are evaluating S29GL064S as the replacement due to EOL of S29GL064N.

The problem is that the long programming time of S29GL064S caused the out of system specification at start up time.

The difference between S29GL064S and S29GL064N is write buffer size.

S29GL064N : 16-word / 32-byte write buffer which reduces overall programming time for multiple-word updates

S29GL064S : 128-word / 256-byte write buffer which reduces overall programming time for multiple-word updates

Are there any possibilities large write buffer size caused long programming time ?

Hello,

S29GL064N typical Write Buffer Program time (16-word/32-byte) is 240us. S29GL064S typical Write Buffer Program time (128-word/256-byte) is 400us. Although the single full buffer (32-byte vs. 256-byte) program operation S29GL064S takes longer,  the overall programming time S29GL064S is faster than S29GL064N due to the larger number of data is programmed in one operation.

 

What does “the long programming time of S29GL064S caused the out of system specification at start up time” mean? Is it timer for a single Write Buffer Programmer operation? If so, please set the timer to 1200us (maximum time for S29GL064S Write Buffer Program), or use polling method to check Write Buffer Programming completeness for better performance as most of the Write Buffer Program time is around typical time.

Hello,

Is it possible that customer's system uses word programming instead of buffer programming for programming?

The word programming specification is 60 us/word (typ.) for GL064N and 150 us/word (typ.) for GL064S, so the programming time is longer for GL064S.

It looks like the single word programming caused longer programming time.

We are asking them to change to write buffer programming.
