Hello,

we would need to replace a standard QSPI 256Mbit NOR flash memory, 1.8V, package FBGA 6x8mm, ball array 5x5, with an equivalent Radiation Hardened or Radiation Tolerant memory. 

If 256Mbit are not available, we could decrease size by some amount 128Mb or 64Mb maybe.

Any suggestion?

The CYRS17B512-133UZMB device is 3.3V, 512Mb, (with VI/O) is currently in development

and will be sampling by the end of this year.  This device does have a core VCC of 3.3V,

but also has the Variable I/O (VI/O) feature that supports 1.8V on the I/O's.

The Military Products Expert would like to know :  who is the end customer?

In the interim, I will communicate any new information to you as soon as it becomes available.

The CYRS17B512-133UZMB device is 3.3V, 512Mb, and is currently in development

and will be sampling by the end of this year.

This device does have a core VCC of 3.3V, but also has the Variable I/O (VI/O) feature

that supports 1.8V on the I/O's.

Hello,
unfortunately we don't have dual power supply connected on FBGA pads, only 1.8V.

However, I would know if you have other NOR Flash RadHard solutions with VIO=1.8V, even with a different package (ceramic). 

On web site I can find FL-S serie, but only for military application, not space, thus not RadHard.

Please let me know.

The Military Specialist states that the CY15V116QSN-108BKXI  is 'Not Radiation Hardened' and also 'Not Recommended as Radiation Hardened Device.'

Hello Albert,
as I wrote earlier, we need to replace a standard NOR Flash 1.8V, package FBGA 6x8mm, ball array 5x5, with another memory with same package and same voltage, also with smaller density, offering some kind of protection over standard flash.

Original NOR flash is  MT25QU256ABA8E12-1SIT, which is reference for pinout and interface.

Searching on the website the only memory I found is the aforementioned  CY15V116QSN-108BKXI, which is a F-RAM, so even if it's not qualified as RadHard, it should offer some resistance to memory content upset, while is not protected from SEU and SEL, which however are temporary effects, so should allow us to reboot the system if memory content is read with errors.
In this sense, even if it's not truly RadHard it always better than bare NOR flash.
Is this assumption correct?

As alternative, you could provide us a list of RadHard memories which could fit our application?
Searching on website "product selector" is not easy to understand which memories are RadHard and which not.

Hello Andrea,

Based on your end customer's specific use case, it is certainly a high risk to assume the boot code will not be affected during a SEU or SEL, or exposure to high radiation levels.  As Cypress' Military Products Specialist had already stated, the CY15V116QSN-08BKXI is 'Not Radiation Hardened' and also 'Not Recommended as Radiation Hardened Device.' 

However, if your company decides to employ the CY15V116QSN-08BKX in a manner that is outside the datasheet specifications, your company assumes all accountability and responsibility in the event that a catastrophic failure should occur.

For Rad-Hard products, please indicate the memory density, core voltage, package type and CLK frequency that is desired.  It may take some time to assemble a Rad-Hard list for you.

Hello Albert,
I understand there's some risk.
However please clarify me if there's an advantage using FRAM over standard NOR Flash. 
I assumed FRAM was more robust to radiation than standard flash, even if not RadHard qualified. Is this correct?

About the RadHard list, specifications are those I already wrote:
- density: the more you can
- voltage: 1.8V for both core and I/O
package: FBGA 6x8mm, ball array 5x5
- clock: anything grater than 10MHz
- interface: QSPI

About support, there are several technical matters we need to discuss with Cypress Military/Space expert, so our preference is to have a direct contact, via email. 
We are spending a lot of time using the forum and acting in third person. 

Furthermore, our buyers will have to contact for commercial matters.
Simply using a forum is not the right way to handle this quickly.

Please give us a direct email contact of FAE/sales persons for military/space products.

Hello Albert, 

unfortunately we don't have so much time...

We are trying to replace a MT25QU256ABA8E12-1SIT NOR flash memory powered at 1.8V with something offering some resistance to radiation. 

Given that a pin compatible solution with same density doesn't exists yet, we thought to employ a 16Mbit F-RAM.

I see Cypress CY15V116QSN-108BKXI should be compatible, maybe also other similar memories could be available. 

Could you confirm that these memories do have resistance to radiation (content not altered)? 

There's immediate availability for these memories, at least some samples?
