We are utilizing the following EVAL config / eval-m1-im828-a/

The motor utilized here is a 3 phaseACIM with config intended to be a open loop V/F control. Attached the spec here. 

Could we get a MCE Wizard System Config File generated utilizing this data for an immediate platform eval.

Hello @nambip,

    In order to do the V/f control of Induction Motor, the generation of the required Vd and Vq voltages must be done using the script, as the internal source code of the imotion be default uses the equations for a permanent magnet synchronous motor hence the working of the motor will be incorrect when we rely only on the internal calculations inside the imotion MCE. For example, induction motor rotor speed has a slip, which is never accounted for in the internal calculations. 

The target speed given externally must be taken in the script and please refer to the sample script given in the section 3 of the Induction motor control by iMOTION™ document. 

Also, follow the calculations given in the above document especially in sections 1 and 2. Refer to the document How to Use iMOTION™ Script Language for further details on how to write the script.

Hi Prasanna,

Please find the attached .mc2 file in zipped format for the above-mentioned combination. Please operate  motor within the current limit.

Please modify the system parameters based on the input voltage source  and for more details refer to EVAL-M1-IM828-A user guide 

Please refer to this application note for controlling Induction motor using iMOTION AN2019-18 Induction motor control by iMOTION™ 

To select open loop angle, you use MCEDesigner to set the AngleSelect register to 0. MCEDesigner also provides a VF Diagnostic function in the Motor window. AngleSelect is set to 0 for open loop control and CtrlModeSelect to 0 for voltage control mode under this function.

Here is the snapshot of the data from the MCE designer,  the status shows up as " Motor 1 Drive is Stopped" .

Identified the DC feed within the limits (needs voltage scaling adjusted but that is adjusted to be within the window) 

Any tips for debug to see the motor operational  ?

Apologies for the delay in response due to festive holidays.

Can you please let us know What is the DC bus voltage level?

Based on the DC bus voltage, voltage scaling has to be adjusted. Please modify the shared MCE wizard sample .mc2 file according to your system and send it to us, This will give us a better idea.

Here is the snapshot of the data from the MCE designer,  the status shows up as " Motor 1 Drive is Stopped" .

Initially motor will be in the stop state once start motor command is given the motor will start, but please make sure the voltage and current is within the safe operating limit before giving the start command. Please refer to the getting started guide shared in the above reply.

Please let us know if any further details are required.

Hi @Krupashankar 

1. At power on the motor does not start until the ‘VF diagnostic’ command is selected , it runs sub 10s of RPM and then can increase the speed utilizing the ‘Change Target Speed’ command. 

However the max motor TargetSpeed we can successfully have the spinning is until 400 RPM beyond which the motor stalls ( nameplate rating is 1785RPM)  

Motor data sheet is same attached in above thread and also we have verified successful operation (non imotion VFD environment) 

 

Some observations here below 

DC LINK : 550 V 

 Motor data : Inductance 90 mH 

BEMF measurement data , per Infineon App note guidelines 

Peak to Peak —> 800mV

Time Period —>  174mS ( 5.74Hz) 

  Ke = 1.895. ?? , 

this seems too low and prompting an error , The error goes away only if the value is > 18 ??

Attached the current MCE wizard config files  as well

Hi @nambip,

iMotion doesn't support closed-loop control of the induction motor. Only V/f control is possible.

Please make sure if  AngleSelect register is set to 0 this makes the motor run in an open loop algorithm.

In case of open loop algorithm motor max speed and number of poles is key parameter.

Please let us know if you are facing any issues with running the motor in open loop algorithm.

@Krupashankar Verified the AngleSelect reg is set to 0 , still the same issue as above with respect to the motor max speed / RPM

@Krupashankar  The StartMotor feature is operational after manually changing the AngleSelect bits to 0. That being said the motor stalls at higher RPM exactly how the system was performing while utilizing the VfDiag command

Do you have any application examples with the AC induction motor script ? 

The Induction motor control by iMOTION™ example script here with modification has GATE_KILL enabled upon few seconds of visible motor spin. We are unable to root cause the config setting MCE Wizard(same that was operational ) and script together where the issue is currently observed.

   The document shared is the only available material for the induction motor control, as well as the script. 

  Please let me know the modifications that were done in the script. Have you used the same script given in the document? What are the modifications that were done?
