Hello,

The instructions on how to install MT seem disconnected from reality.

I've tried to install the tool using Launcher.

After selecting the MT in launcher and clicking on "install" downloading of package seemed to start, but after downloading finished nothing happened.

Any suggestions.

Thanks.

Pavel.

mktemp is not an independent package in Ubuntu. It is included in coreutils.

Hi @PaYe_4603801 :

Which OS you're working on? Windows, Linux or macOS?

We've provided the ModusToolbox™ tools package installation guide on the website, please refer it at first.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi @Qi_Colin

I use Ubuntu 22.04

First, I tried to download tool from here ...

https://www.infineon.com/cms/en/design-support/tools/sdk/modustoolbox-software/

then I was redirected here ...

https://softwaretools.infineon.com/tools/com.ifx.tb.tool.modustoolbox?_ga=2.84813404.412671138.16735...

There the only option was "Install via Launcher"

Then I followed instruction from here ...

https://www.infineon.com/cms/en/design-support/tools/utilities/infineon-developer-center-idc-launche...

so, I installed Launcher and after from within Launcher tried to install ModusToolbox ... but without success.

If this approach is obsolete, why it's still present on the Infineon site ... and not removed ?

Sincerely,

Pavel

Hi @PaYe_4603801 :

"Install via Laucher" is only for windows OS, not for Linux.

Please select the Linux OS like below.

We've two versions of MTB provided, and version 3.0.xxx is the newest.

Please check it again.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi @Qi_Colin

You say that "Install via Laucher" is only for windows OS, not for Linux.

Here is what I see ...

Hi @PaYe_4603801 :

Sorry for my mistake.

I checked the website from windows OS, so I didn't see it.

When I use ubuntu OS, I can see the same with you.

Could you tell me more about what's the error you met when you installed MTB?

Fail to download ModusToolBox via the Launcher or others?

Best Regards,

Colin

Hello Pavel,

My apologies for not seeing this post sooner. The "Install via launcher" option -- as I am sure you have discovered -- must first download and install the Infineon Developer Center (IDC) tool. If you have not done that previously, you get the experience you described.

The IDC tool is there for convenience to install all types of Infineon tools, not just ModusToolbox. After you install the IDC tool, I am pretty sure you have to launch it from the "Applications" folder or whatever it is called. Then, I think you can use the IDC tool to install ModusToolbox, but I am not sure that the IDC tool will do everything that is required, such as the post-install scripts and whatnot.

I strongly recommend just downloading the Linux tar zip file and following the instructions in the installation guide.

Hello Christopher,

Following the instructions found on the website, first I installed Developer Center Launcher (BTW is it what you call Infineon Developer Center ?). Then within this tool I've tried to installed ModusToolbox ... but failed (the details on how I proceeded were mentioned before). Then, as was suggested by Colin, I used another approach - described in "ModusToolbox™ tools package installation guide". Here I was more successful - I downloaded ModusToolbox archive, unpacked it, installed prerequisites (chapter 2.1 in the guide) and then run scripts (as indicated in the chapter 3.4 in the guide). I'm not tried yet the ModusToolbox with one of my boards, but at least I can run Eclipse IDE.

While installing the "prerequisites", I had problems: Ubuntu couldn't find & install the following modules:

  • cmp
  • mktemp
  • cysecuretools

Are these modules critical for ModusToolbox functionnality ?

Other question: does exist a method to add the icon of Eclipse IDE in the "Applications" in order to run it from as other Ubuntu tools, but not from terminal ?

Sincerely,

Pavel.

Hello again Pavel,

Your questions in order:

Yes, Developer Center Launcher is IDC tool, launcher. All the same thing. It's supposed to make installing easier, but for Ubuntu we only have a ZIP file, so it is flawed.

cmp and mktemp should already be installed on most versions of ubuntu. You can try them from the terminal with --help to see if they are there. You only need cysecuretools if you plan to use those kinds of apps and boards. So, not critical for getting started.

As for running Eclipse on Linux, I am sorry I am not that familiar with how to create shortcuts. You can do a search for "eclipse" in the Home folder and double-click the modustoolbox-eclipse application there.

Hello Christopher,

Thank you for feedback.

No, cmp and mktemp aren't installed.

As I mentioned Ubuntu failed to find these packages on the default repository.

Perhaps I should add a particular repository for them ?

Sincerely,

Pavel

Okay perhaps I misread. Here is a link to mktemp that might work:

https://howtoinstall.co/en/mktemp

And here is cmp:

https://command-not-found.com/cmp

Hope this helps.

Ok, for cmp it's Ok, the diffutils was already installed.

Concerning mktemp, the problem persists:

pavel@MISSURI:~$ sudo apt-get install mktemp

E: Unable to locate package mktemp

I do not think this will block usage ModusToolbox. I am sorry I cannot be more help. Perhaps someone with more Linux experience can help.
