Dear Team , 

Can we use  IGBT ( 8A, 800V TO 220 )  in place of  MOSFET (8A, 800V TO-220 )  for Low power application like up to 50W . 

Pls. help to guide on benefit  IGBT over MOSFET for this rating .

For MOSFET and IGBT, several trade-offs are often considered while selection for design.

For the Ceiling Fan application, You can opt for IGBTs as well for your converter design.

Few advantages of IGBTs over MOSFETs are-

  • Lower On state voltage drops.
  • Lower Input capacitances and Ease in driving for lower operating frequencies in similar rating.
  • Better thermal efficiency, lesser requirement for heat sinks for similar rating.
  • Lower switching losses for similar rating.
  • Smoother switching curves
  • Reduced EMI, etc.

Infineon offers a wide solution for Ceiling Fan application as well.

Dear @Dine_infin 

For low power applications, Usually MOSFETs are preferred over IGBTs.

However, For better understanding may I ask you the end application for the given specs.
