What is the difference between Infineon's TPM and AURIX™ HSM?

Unlike conventional microcontrollers, Infineon’s AURIX™ microcontroller integrates a hardware security module (HSM). In other words, special computing and storage units reserved for cryptographic functions and protected by their own firewall. The digital key used to identify a vehicle in a block chain, for example, could be stored here.

Infineon’s OPTIGA™ TPM for automotive security delivers an even higher level of protection. The TPM is a dedicated security solution featuring the most extensive range of security functions that protect sensitive information. It is certified in line with international security standards and provides a particularly high level of protection against physical attacks such as side-channel attacks (including analysis of things like the runtime of a crypto-algorithm, the power consumed by the processor during its calculations or the electromagnetic radiation level).

The TPM is particularly effective at protecting sensitive external interfaces, for example to the cloud, to prevent unauthorized access to a car. The critical security keys required for authentication and similar processes are integrated in Infineon’s secured production environment, which is regularly audited and certified. In addition to offering high levels of security, this approach also gives manufacturers and suppliers other benefits by simplifying production processes and reducing overall costs.
