# PSoC™ 4 HVPA: Current measurement range with different shunt resistance - KBA236359

The current measurement range (
IRMEAS) with PSoC™ 4 HVPA devices is defined as ±3000 A when the shunt resistance (RSENSE) is 100 μΩ [SID104]. IRMEAS with different RSENSE value is calculated as follows:

There are two cases depending on the Programmble gain value (GPGA). Analog gain (GANA) becomes GANA = GPGA /4.

1. GPGA ≤ 16

PSoCTM 4 HVPA devices specify RSHx and RSLx differential input voltage range = ±0.3 V [SID114]. Therefore, if you change the resistance value, the following formula must be satisfied:

IRMEAS = 0.3 V / RSENSE

1. GPGA 32

In this case, the input signal drops below the internal reference voltage of 1.2 V if the following formula is satisfied:

IRMEAS_GPGA = 1.2 / (RSENSE × GANA)

From 1 and 2, Table 1 shows an example of the current measurement range (IRMEAS).
