PROFET™+2/Smart-7 overcurrent protection timing
The time for the device to recognize the overcurrent condition and then subsequently perform a protective turn-off is not specified in the datasheet but can be approximately by the following two timings:
1: Overload shutdown delay time: This is the time for the device to recognize and react to the overcurrent condition and then to begin the turn off process (discharge of FET gate). This can be approximated as 1µsec-5µsec.
2: Overload Turn-off/Fall time: This is the time to discharge the internal FET gate. During a protective turn-off event the waveshaping and slew rate control is deactivated and the device is turned off quite rapidly compared to a normal (non-protective) turn off event. The protective turn off time is not specified in the datasheet be can be estimated to be in the approximate range of 20x faster then a normal/non-protective turn off (thus approximately in the range of 1-5µsec).
Thus in total it would take approximately in the range of 2µsec -10µsec to turn off the device for a protective overcurrent event.
