How to detect an Open and Short condition with TLD1211SJ?
The TLD1211SJ detects and reacts on OL or SC according to following table:
Fault | Detection | Reaction when fault detected |
---|---|---|
Open Load (OL) | VOUT open (VOUT ~ VS) |
Low Operating Current, below 1.7 mA (see parameter 4.3.2) |
OUT Short to GND (OUT_SC) | VSENSE ~ 0V | the output current is limited to approximately at 90 mA |
VSENSE Short to GND (VSENSE_SC) | VSENSE ~ 0V | the output current is limited to approximately at 90 mA |
Note: as the control loop in open load and short circuit behaves the same (VSENSE ~0V), the current consumption is expected to be the same for the two faults, <1.7 mA (parasitic effects could make some difference).
The TLD1211SJ is also protected against overload, overvoltage and overtemperature. In case of those faults the output current will decrease, protecting not only the IC but also the LEDs.
Please refer to the datasheet of TLD1211SJ for more details and also take a look at the LITIX Linear page.
