Smart power high-side switches

Smart power high-side switches offer various functionalities which can be enabled / disabled and the different combinations of them are described as operation modes in the datasheet. Depending on the active functionalities it results in a certain current consumption of the device. For a better understanding when a functionality is active or not, smart high-side switches provide different operation modes.

Sleep Mode

One of the operation modes is the Sleep Mode which is implemented in every smart high-side switch. The sleep mode is entered when the device is supplied at the VS pin and all logic pins are set to “LOW’ and therefore the channel is in OFF-state. The current consumption is IVS(SLEEP).

Standby Mode

The Standby Mode, also called diagnosis in OFF mode, can be accessed from different modes, and only enables the diagnosis with DEN = “high” to read back certain information while the channel is switched off (IN = ‘low’). The current consumption in this mode is IGND(INACTIVE). In Table 1, an overview for the operation mode differences is given.

Table 1: Overview of differences for Sleep mode and Inactive mode (w/ diagnosis)

For lowest current consumption during OFF-state / parking mode it is recommended to use sleep mode of the device.
