Can BTN7030-1EPA handle small load currents (e.g. 14mA) without open load detection?
BTN7030 open load detction circuit can handle small load currents. Load current need to generate a voltage drop over the pull up resistor larger than VDS(OLOFF)
BTN7030 checks for open load detection in off state with "Open load VDS detection threshold in OFF state VDS(OLOFF)".
A small load current such as 14mA need to generate a voltage drop larger than VDS(OLOFF) to prevent open load detection.
To use the open load detection feature in off state a (switchable) pull up resistor from Out pin to VS is required. In datasheet we have in the BOM a 1.5k.
Attached are some measures for open load detection at small load current.
In the example, a load resistance of 15k || 3k3 in parallel (~ 5mA @ 13.5V) is applied without open load detection.
With a load resistance of 15k (~ 0,9mA @ 13.5V), open load is detected.
VS in here 13.5V.
The pullup resistor of 1k5 we use on the arduino shield of BTN7030 should be ok for most of the cases , but might be adapted according to minimum load current , minimum VS etc.
