The DEN pin enables / disables the diagnsotic function (e.g. open load detection when device is off or current sensing, fault detection when device is on).
For current sensing, EN must be high. If no diagnsotic (e.g. current sensing ) is needed, DEN = low.
For motor control applications I would suggest to enable the diagnostic.
