Q: Looking for an alternative smart driver for use as a pump driver in systems. The smart drivers should meet the following requirements:
Overload protection
Thermal protection
Short circuit protection
ESD protection
Clamping voltage min 40V
3.3V and 5V compatible input (driven by µC)
For 12V application in automotive industry (AECQ100 qualified)
Diagnose function (over input pin or extra pin)
Rdson 100mΩ
Slew rate control
Current measurement as “nice to have”
Pump with brush motor approximately 6W:
Nominal current 1A
Worst case current (mechanical block/pneumatic block @-40°C):
Variant 1 = 3A for longer time (up to 10min)
Variant 2 = 6A for longer time (up to 10min)
Suggest optimal alternative (optimal price, high runner, recommended for new designs…)
4 combinations are needed:
1. High-side as „enable“ (on and off switching, no PWM)
2. High side for 20kHz PWM from 20% duty cycle onwards
3. Low side (no PWM)
4. Low side for 20kHz PWM
A: Half-bridge or just smart switch? For BDC motors, bridges are suggested, but switches were asked for.
To the switches:
1. High-side as „enable“ (on and off switching, no PWM)
The BTS50xx series is Rdson in mΩ, however without slew rate control.
2. High side for 20kHz PWM from 20% duty cycle onwards
Not available.
3. Low side (no PWM)
Here also, the BTF30xxxEJ series (HITFET™+) or the BTS30xxxEJ
4. Low side for 20kHz PWM
Here the BTF30xxxEJ series (HITFET™+).
There is nevertheless an High side switch with 20KHz. It has 6mΩ Rdson and maybe oversized (price-wise). This is the BTF50060-1TEA.
