Question: When reading raw trace data from Extension Memory (EMEM) in the debugger, only "???" is visible. How do I make a memory dump of the traced data?

Answer:

A common use case for the Extension Memory (EMEM) is storing traced data. The data can be downloaded by using one of the trace interfaces or by making a simple memory dump with a debugger. The EMEM is organized in tiles, which can be configured in different modes, such as application or tool mode.

If a tile is configured in application mode, the tool (in this case, the debugger) cannot access the memory; therefore, most of the debuggers show a symbol, for example, “?” that means the content cannot be accessed.

Once the tile is switched to tool mode, the debugger can access the raw data from EMEM and make a memory dump that can be decoded later.
