Hi all,

The Ic(sc) of IKD15N60RF is described as 112A in the data sheet.
Is there a recommended current value to protect the short circuit?
As a condition, they keep the short circuit time.

Best regards,
MS

Hello,
Yes, it is. But as it is an estimated value, not verified, better to analyze the value from the graph as these are tested short circuit ratings against some fixed conditions.

Hello,
Thank you for posting on Infineon Community.

The short circuit rating is a measure of the energy that the IGBT can withstand under a short circuit condition.  In this condition, the IGBT is forced on, with a high voltage applied across the collector-emitter terminals.  This causes a very high current to flow and very high power levels to be dissipated by the device.

The short circuit rating is tested by applying a fixed voltage across the collector-to-emitter terminals and then biasing the gate on.  This is tested while the IGBT is mounted on a heat sink and stabilized at a high temperature.  In IKD15N60RF, i.e. ,a 600 V IGBT, we typically apply 300 to 400 V from the collector-to-emitter terminals and then bias the gate at 15 V.  The short circuit current rating  on our datasheets are measured on these test conditions. The below figure shows , t(sc) and Ic(sc) behavior can be mapped as the function of the gate voltage VGE(refer datasheet, page 11).

One can measure Ic(sc) value by measuring slope of the curve for a given VGE value.
If you still need a recommenced value for the current, with state-of-the-art IGBTs, it is usually rated at 3~6 times nominal current to keep a high level of reliability as well as lifetime.

Note - It is highly recommended to go with datasheet parameters to make best use of product and it's safety.

Thanks and Regards,
Anshika
