Hi,
The desat pin of 1ed family can be tested as follows,
" For this testing the desat pin external circuit (cap, resistor and diode) is still required. If you give an ON signal to the driver and reverse bias that DESAT diode, the constant current source will will eventually charge up the desat capacitor and trigger DESAT protection. This step is similar to the case that when a short circuit is happening and the Vce(sat) is too high and not able to clamp (bring down) the desat pin voltage."

It can only be a ceramic capacitor. This is because the range of capacitance for this is in several hundreds pF.
