SYSTM001_StopTimer(ScanTimerId) is not working

Hi,
I am using SYSTM001 as a periodic timer. My call back function checks for certain conditions and if they are met, I call 'Status = SYSTM001_StopTimer(ScanTimerId);'
Status is always 1 and the timer continues to run. How can I stop the timer?
