Hey there! 😄

I'm excited to share some great news on today’s blog from Infineon about the microcontroller families AURIX™ and TRAVEO™. These two families of microcontrollers are well-known for their reliability and safety features in the automotive industry, but now they are extending their support to the industrial safety sector as well.

If you're not familiar with Infineon's microcontrollers, let me give you a quick rundown. They're essentially tiny computers that control a wide range of devices, from cars to elevators to medical equipment. What sets Infineon's microcontrollers apart is their focus on safety and security. In fact, the AURIX™ TC3xx and TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller families have a rich set of integrated functional safety and cybersecurity hardware features that make them ideal for safety-critical applications.

AURIX™ and TRAVEO™ are two families which have had a particular focus in safety features for some time now. However, the big news which was recently shared in Market News is that Infineon is extending their support for IEC61508 metric to enable industrial safety up to SIL-3. This is a significant development for the industrial control systems industry, which demands minimal faults in harsh environments. With the FMEDA (Failure Modes Effects and Diagnostics Analysis) available documentation, design engineers can now confidently use Infineon's AURIX™ TC3xx and TRAVEO™ T2G when designing safety-critical applications, making it a game-changer for this field.

But what exactly does this support for IEC61508 metric mean? In addition to ISO26262, AURIX™ TC3xx and TRAVEO™ T2G microcontrollers are now enabling IEC61508 metrics supports, which allows developers to achieve SIL-1-3 for their industrial applications, from medical to robotics to machinery. So, it means the microcontrollers now come with the necessary documentation to enable safety certification. On top of that, Infineon's software AUTOSAR low-level driver – MCAL is now also supporting IEC61508.

Ralf Ködel, VP Microcontroller at Infineon, put it best when he said, "As Autosar standard can be used now beyond automotive applications, we are enabling our customers by providing the right low-level driver (AUTOSAR MCAL) which enhances them with IEC61508 compliance." It's a testament to Infineon's commitment to making their products accessible to a wide range of industries.

So, if you're looking for a reliable and safe microcontroller for your industrial application, look no further than Infineon's AURIX™ and TRAVEO™ families. They're not only perfect for automotive applications but also for a wide range of other industries where safety is paramount. It is safe to say that these developments are a game-changer for the industrial control systems industry and we can't wait to see the impact it will have on the future of industrial safety!
