But what exactly does this support for IEC61508 metric mean? In addition to ISO26262, AURIX™ TC3xx and TRAVEO™ T2G microcontrollers are now enabling IEC61508 metrics supports, which allows developers to achieve SIL-1-3 for their industrial applications, from medical to robotics to machinery. So, it means the microcontrollers now come with the necessary documentation to enable safety certification. On top of that, Infineon's software AUTOSAR low-level driver – MCAL is now also supporting IEC61508.

Ralf Ködel, VP Microcontroller at Infineon, put it best when he said, "As Autosar standard can be used now beyond automotive applications, we are enabling our customers by providing the right low-level driver (AUTOSAR MCAL) which enhances them with IEC61508 compliance."
