what's the Product Status all about?
Where are the detailed differences in “active and preferred” and “on request”.
Is this only a question of delivery time? Which delivery times have to be considered generally?

"On request" are variants that are possible, but not actively produced. You would have to commit to a fierce volume of parts to move an On Request variant to Active.
