For the following question, we've got a reasonable answer that we should use the newest version of FW and driver in our product,  and Infineon will provide a modification list later.

We are still waiting for the modification list since FMAC v4.14.77-2019_0503, and our customer is now pushing us for an answer.  So could you please help to check internally and provide a modification list as soon as possible?

Thanks,

Tandi

Our product used Cypress wifi chip, and this product was released in 2019. The wifi driver and firmware have been updated several times since then, our customer want to make an evaluation for SOUP, that is, to evaluate any of the updates for driver or firmware need to be implemented in our next SW package release.

Hi @Tandi :

I checked the FMAC package of different versions.

The last section of README in package has the release notes of each version.

Please check it whether it can meet your customer's requirement or not.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your suggestions, but the release notes inside FMAC package are too difficult for us to understand, I don't know if it is possible that someone in Infineon can make a summary of all release notice and only list major modifications(especially security related).

Thanks a lot!

Hi @Tandi :

I'm sorry that we don't have the summary information which you're requiring can be provided.

Please let me explain the release notes and brief information of different FMAC version to you.

1) Firstly, you can find the latest version of Linux kernel which the FMAC support in version information.

For example,  v5.10.9-2022_0909 of FMAC can support kernel version 5.10.9, and also support old kernel based on backports package. OTOH,  v4.14.77-2020_0115 of FMAC only can support  kernel version 4.14.77 or older.

2) FMAC Driver Changes show the patch number of different function or specific device you should apply in current version of kernel.

 For example,  in cypress-fmac-v5.10.9-2022_0909, SDIO (001, 006, 011, 039-041, 059, 061, 080) require 001, 006, 011, 039-041, 059, 061 and 080 driver patch when the kernel version is 5.10.9.

3) Hostap Patch List is the same with FMAC Driver Patch List. If you're porting on kernel version  5.10.9, you should apply these patches.

4) For older version, these patches are already in backports package.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your answers for FMAC.

What about FW, we didnot find similar modification list in cypress-firmware-v5.4.18-2021_08_12, do you have FW information?

Thanks,

Tandi

Hi @Tandi :

I checked cypress-firmware-v5.4.18-2021_08_12's change Log.

It shows that 2021-09-03 Firmware Update for 4356-pcie, 4339, 43362 (cypress-firmware-v5.4.18-2021_08_12.zip).

This is a version based on Cypress Linux WiFi Driver Release (FMAC) [2021-05-27] , just update Firmware of 4356-pcie, 4339, 43362.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi Colin,

But there is no modification list inside the FW packege.

When we released this product in 2019, we use the driver of DHD 1.141.100 and FW 7.10.323.34. We now decided to keep this dirver(not moving to FMAC). We got the modification list of FW 7.10.323.34 to FW 7.45.98.83 from Cypress:

•       Coverity Fixes
•       Enhanced Krack fix
•       Fix for Extended IE handling in assoc request
•       WPA3 support
•       PNO deprecated due to memory restrictions

Is there any FW modification list, or something like FMAC release package since FW 7.45.98.83?

Thanks,

Tandi
