In this specific situation, wpa_supplicant (wpa_cli) is used when the device which has CYW43455 1MW  chip is in normal mode. When the device goes to deep sleep( linux  goes suspend to RAM mode) 1MW chip goes to power-save mode.

My question is when the device is in the state above, can we use internal supplicant  to offload gtk rekeying ? And is it possible that when the device is back to normal state to external and internal supplicant are used simultaneously?

Hi @Qi_Colin

Here are logs when FT performed.
After FT performed device didn't get Ip address. Here is supplicant output:

What is interesting that FT used to work on older version:

wl0: Apr 15 2021 03:03:20 version 7.45.234 (4ca95bb CY) FWID 01-996384e2
And not working on
wl ver

wl0: Aug 29 2023 01:47:08 version 7.45.265 (28bca26 CY) FWID 01-b677b91b

Hi @brosandic :

For can't get IP address issue, may I know you're using the static IP or DHCP?

I can't find the information in logs.

Colin

Hi Sir:

So, currently question is not related to  (CTRL-EVENT-ASSOC-REJECT  status_code=16) or gtk rekey, am I right?

Please let me know more about current problem.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi @Qi_Colin ,

The problem is no matter we use internal or external supplicant, (FT, fast transition) roaming doesn't work.

GTK re-keying is not a problem any more.

We can still see CTRL-EVENT-ASSOC-REJECT  status_code=16.

What we discovered is that if we just use 7.45.234 firmware, from older release, instead of  7.45.265 (although the driver and wpa supplicant is new) we are not seeing FT issues.

So my general question is - what is recommended release (wpa supplicant, driver, firmware) for CYW43455?  And how come there's so much issues with the new release ? It seems it is worse then the version we used to use before ?

Thanks,
Bogdan

Hi @brosandic :

If your application requires roaming feature, I suggest you don't disable internal roaming feature with roamoff=1.

For CTRL-EVENT-ASSOC-REJECT  status_code=16, please get the air logs when it appeared, and then we can try to find out the reason.

The new FW version will fix some issues based on the old version, so we suggest customer implement the newest version of FW.

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi @Qi_Colin ,

But the problem is roaming doesn't work.

 What is the newest fw version ?
 There are other tickets where your colleagues are not recommending the latest wl tool with CYW43455.

Since CYW43455 is older chipset, what is the latest version of firmware, wl tool etc. for this chipset.

Hi @brosandic :

7.45.265 is the latest version of CYW43455 which we official released.

You mention that the roaming doesn't work on this version.

Do you mean that "key_mgmt=FT-PSK" not support?

Best Regards,

Colin

Hi, I would like to add more information.

We have this supplicant config

ctrl_interface=/run/wpa_supplicant
update_config=1
bgscan="learn:15:-75:1800"

network={
ssid="`~!@#$%^\"&\\*()_+=-,./<>?"
scan_ssid=1
psk="aaaaaaaa"
sae_password="aaaaaaaa"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK FT-PSK SAE FT-SAE
ieee80211w=1
}

We are connected on SSID with wpa3 encryption and use GTK timeout for 60s

Every time GTK expire we lost network and get

Apr 18 04:48:00 -- daemon.debug wpa_supplicant[5748]: nl80211: Scan trigger failed: ret=-52 (Invalid exchange)

So it's not just that Fast Transition doesn't work but all network is unstable.

When FT-SAE is removed from key_mgmt we don't see this this error and network works correctly, but Fast Transition still doesn't work.
Also interesting is that if Godzilla fw is replaced with Cynder fw, FT-SAE doesn't make problems and FT works correctly.

Hi @lvasiljevic :

Please try attached FW for 43455 again.

I checked the FW of Cynder and Godzilla, and the difference is "in-driver supplicants" and "in-driver authenticators " are enabled in Cynder but not in Godzilla.

FT-SAE is not supported for current FW.

Best Regards,

Colin

Thank you @Qi_Colin ,

I tried your firmware and couldn't reproduce problem with FT-SAE.

Fast Transition still doesn't work.

Do you know when can we expect to have official firmware with Fast Transition feature?

Thanks

Hi @lvasiljevic :

I have no idea about the new official firmware of CYW43455 whether can meet your requirement or not.

I suggest you to contact our local Infineon Sales or distributors for custom support to meet the whole requirement of your application.

Best Regards,

Colin
